Police warn of phone scam

Kewanee police Friday alerted citizens to an apparent body armor telephone scam.

The police department was notified Friday that a citizen had received a phone call seeking a donation to support the Illinois State Police purchase body armor.

“The Kewanee Police Department has been in contact with the Illinois State Police in Springfield and was advised that no such effort is under way and that troopers are provided body armor by the agency,” Police Chief Jim Dison said.

“This hold true in Kewanee, as the city provides local officers body armor,” Dison said.

The chief advised anyone receiving such a call not to commit any funds to the caller. and to notify the police department at 853-1911.
